My latest obsession.
Beautiful. Peaceful. Relaxing. Wonderful.
Why did it take me ALL summer to get here? No television, no internet, no phone – not even a signal omg the first time I thought I was going to die
It’s the simple things.
Rocks.
Sand.
Water.
Splashing. Jumping. Creating. Dreaming.
And it’s all free. The beach is free. The parking is free. Even the crazy people watching is free.
Our latest hangout has been Lake Michigan’s Central Beach at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. I’ve been told it’s not a “real beach” because it’s not an ocean. But, it LOOKS like the ocean – just smaller waves and a bit different smell. Same kind of tan which is all that counts, right?
It’ll do…oh will it do…
Even though Summer is on it’s way out…at least in the Midwest…you still need to be mindful of protecting your skin. Did you know for everyday sun protection, The American Academy of Dermatology and the Skin Cancer Foundation recommends using sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15 providing broad spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays to all exposed skin? Our favorite summer activity happens to be going to the lake! We live right across the street from a large lake with a rather small beach. In fact, we wasted money on a pool membership this summer when all my son wanted to do was just swim in the lake! Lesson learned! I got my best tan ever this summer but my skin is very fair and I really need sunscreen products.

Everything outside–but most of all parks, by the water if possible. Packing a simple picnic lunch and spending the evening. Ahhh… By the way, I’ve been to Dunes National Park but my guide acted lost on our 1 hr. plus dune hike. Not so much fun at the time.

We don’t have a favorite summer activity other than going in the pool. It’s just too hot to have fun doing things outdoors. We prefer to head down to Kissimmee, FL for two or so weeks in January/February when the temperature is more enjoyable and everything is less crowded to have fun. Since we homeschool, we can be flexible.
My favorite summertime activity is basking in the sun down here on the Anderson Point beach. Thank you.

We like having campfires and making smores.
My fave summer activity has to be goin to the beach. I could lay on the sand and listen to the crash of the waves for hours and hours (if the sun wouldn’t burn!). I was just at Point Beach on Lake Michigan. I used to live by the ocean and yes, different smell, but same sound. Love it!
